Long time no see, eh?

Thu Nov 27, 2008, 8:30 PM
I cannot believe how long it is since I've done anything on this site, and even longer since I made a journal entry. My last one was 1st year orientation day, for crying out loud! I am now between my second and third year of med, which means I'm about to embark on genuine clinical work next year. Translation: I get to traumatise real patients. Given my unwavering dedication to my purpose for existence, I'm getting plenty of practice by traumatising patients down at the pathology centre, where I collect various bodily fluids, using a range of mediaeval torture instruments, for one eighth of a pittance each week.

Actually, I lie. The pay's not bad, and I've only traumatised about four people. But one of them fianted, and one of them cursed my name and family to the seventh generation, so I figure that balances out (if I conveniently ignore the fact that the fainter had low blood sugar and the one who cursed my name was cursing everyone elses names as well).

Orientation

Fri Feb 23, 2007, 3:19 PM
Had orientation for med today, which was pretty fun. We got a heap of free junk from various medical insurance companies all trying to snaffle the commencing students before they became too well-informed and cynical. We also got shown around the clinical school next to the hospital, which contained a lot of organs and limbs in jars, including a gangrenous foot which was pretty interesting in a disgusting kind of way. We had lots and lots of presentations from various med student societies trying to get us to join. I had heard stories about the depraved riotousness of med student orgies, but not until I saw those photos was I able to comprehend the full drunken glory. Honestly, they keep the name of Bacchus alive is this day and age. I think this year's going to be fun. =D

The next stage

Wed Jan 24, 2007, 4:34 PM
Well, I had intended to have a gap year, but I've gotten into the habit of studying, so after two months of going crazy with boredom I've buckled and signed up for medicine at Tas uni. This time next month I'll be embarking on the first of five years in the course. Wish me luck.

17!

Sat Nov 12, 2005, 5:23 PM
Well, it's the day after the day after my birthday and so far I've amassed $395, a reversible silk skirt in my favourite colours, and a lot of chocolate. Terry Pratchett book pending. Not a bad haul for my 17th. Happy summer holidays, all you southern hemisphere people! And to the northern hemisphere ones: :mwahaha:

Finito!

Tue Oct 18, 2005, 5:06 AM
At last! At long last! My Ancient Civs extended study is FINISHED! Two more essay, minor ones, and two exams and then I can bid the humanities goodbye. Geez those subjects are going down the drain. Especially English Studies. Currently studying Cloudstreet, by Tim Winton, which is so wanky it's unbelievable. Plus all the characters are completely pathetic excuses for human beings. Well, almost all of them. A few are ok.

So anyway, as I was saying, I can kiss the humanities goodbye and skip blithely on to a year filled with nothing but maths and science. Imaginary numbers! Organic Chemistry! Physics! Engineering! Bioligy! Here I come! Goodbye, Economics, may you rot in hell. =D
